Health Science Workshop: Introduction to Medicine and Healthcare Fields

This workshop explored different path from high school and beyond for careers inn healthcare including medicine, nursing, dentistry, and pharmacy. the guest speakers worked in healthcare fields and related professions including medical students and pharmacists. We also offered interactive activities in which participants got to ask the speakers about different careers in healthcare and the educational pathway to each one. Last but not least, the participants got to learn how to check the vital signs like blood pressure, temperature, and heart rate, by using a stethoscope and measure vitals.

Nilanga (Aki) Bandara, from UBC Medicine
Nilanga (Aki) Bandara is currently a Medical student and sessional lecturer at the University of British Columbia. He is passionate about public health initiatives and evidence-based research.
Ali Reza Ladak, from UBC PharmD
Ali Reza Ladak is a pharmacy practice lecturer and community pharmacist in Vancouver, BC. He coordinates the Skills Lab in year 1 of the entry-to-practice PharmD program as well as a two week dermatology module. Ali’s teaching experience includes injection training, pharmacy year 2 and 3 Skills Lab, problems-based learning and over-the-counter medication.
